The Horace Mann library will continue providing materials to students in a variety of ways. In addition to the audiobooks on tape and cd as well as the PlayAway audiobooks, we will be adding digital books and e-readers to the library collection. Available soon will be color Nook e-readers. These e-readers will be loaded with many books for students to read. In many cases, the stories will have a feature that allows the students to have the story read to them while they follow along with the text. At this time, the Nooks will only be available to use in the library or a classroom. These will not be available for home use. Both picture books and chapter books as well as various non-fiction titles will be available.
In addition, we will have approximately 70 titles available via Follett Shelf. This is a digital bookshelf where students can read books from any internet capable device. After logging in, students will be able to read a book online. When they are finished, the book becomes available for other students. Teachers will also have the ability to share the books with their students via their classroom computer and LCD projector or interactive whiteboard. This is a great way to expand the use of the library collection.
