A lot of great things are happening at Horace Mann, but unfortunately, spreading the word about these events isn't easy. I'm hoping this space is a way to help spread the word. I'm in the process of creating a monthly library newsletter that will be sent home shortly. This newsletter contains information about this site and hopefully we will get a lot of parents subscribing to the updates.
This year, I want to continue to stress the importance of responsibility in the library by recognizing students who return their books on time. Most students are doing a pretty good job of getting books returned on time, but there are still several students in each class who seem to forget. This year, I have a new system in place to help keep track of students who bring their books back on time. Each student in grades 1 through 5 have a library card/shelf marker/computer lab card. On this card each student's barcode as well as their computer user name and password. To help keep track of students who return their books on time, I put a hole punch in their card each week they return all of their books. You can see in the picture to the left that this student has 4 punches. This way, I can reward the students at the end of each quarter who return their books every week. So far, this system is working well.
